Motivational Interviewing

2 day course, Maximum of 16 participants.

This course will help empower practitioners to develop knowledge, skills and confidence in using Motivational Interviewing to enable change and growth in service users.

You will gain understanding of the spirit and method of MI.

The two days offer practical experience in trying out this approach with opportunity to observe others practice and receive feedback on you practice sessions.

    Practitioners in the Substance Misuse Field / Social Care and Multi-agency teams / Health / Physical Activity staff

  • The two days will cover:

    • The core tasks and spirit of Motivational Interviewing
    • Core skills to guide conversations
    • Engaging clients, helping them focus on what is important to them, deepening their focus to look at how they are experiencing their issues and their desired changes and moving towards planning to help change and growth
    • Explore how intrinsic and extrinsic motivation interact with change and growth
    • Explore Ambivalence and Discord and their impact on change and growth
